10-06-12: Pet Ear Infections
Our October 6th show discussed ear infections in dogs and cats. Ear infections can be a chronic and frustrating problem for many pet owners. Our expert guest was veterinary dermatology expert Dr. Lindsay McKay from VCA Aurora in Aurora, Illinois. We discussed the common causes of ear infections, including allergic skin disease, ear mites, foreign bodies such as foxtails or grass awns, and hair growth deep in the ear canal. We also discussed complications associated with ear infections and got Dr. McKay’s opinion on how to treat this disease correctly and appropriately to avoid chronic problems and costly treatments.
